CrossWay Missions: The Story of Jimmy Allen
An Amazing Ministry Jimmy Allen (1930–2020) was a pivotal figure in the Churches of Christ for over six decades. According to archives from Harding University and The Christian Chronicle, his ministry was characterized by an extraordinary commitment to the Great Commission. Throughout his career, he conducted approximately 1,400 gospel meetings, preaching across 42 states and seven countries. His work was marked by staggering results, including over 10,000 baptisms and more than 60,000 restorations and rededications—figures that highlight his unique ability to reach both the lost and the wayward with the message of Christ.
An Amazing Man Allen’s influence extended far beyond the pulpit. He was a beloved professor at Harding University for 50 years, from 1959 to 2009, where he was particularly renowned for his passionate teaching of the book of Romans. As an instructor at the Harding School of Biblical Studies, he mentored a generation of ministers, including David Fincher, the president of CrossWay Missions, who studied under Allen from 1983 to 1985. Records from The Christian Chronicle also note Allen’s personal courage; in 1968, he was one of 40 ministers who met in Atlanta to advocate for improved race relations and equality within the church, demonstrating a life committed to the social applications of the gospel.
An Amazing Mission The mission of Jimmy Allen—to seek and save the lost—is the heartbeat of CrossWay Missions today. Whether he was preaching to thousands in citywide campaigns or mentoring students in a classroom, his focus remained on the transformative power of grace. CrossWay Missions continues this legacy by documenting and sharing the stories and teachings of restoration leaders like Allen, ensuring that his life’s work of "not keeping the Gospel shut" continues to inspire believers and reach nations for Christ.
